Mr. and Mrs. Camille West-Eversley have been honored as Volunteers of the Year for their exceptional dedication and service to the Maryland District AAU and their community. Their contributions encompass a wide range of activities, reflecting a profound commitment to positively impacting the lives of others.
Before becoming volunteers with Maryland District AAU, Dean served as the Assistant Coach for his son’s basketball team, Severn Elite. He later became a full-fledged coach as Severn Elite developed into an established basketball organization that served many youth within the Laurel, Severn, Jessup, Elkridge, and Fort Meade communities in Maryland, during which he took on the role of Vice-President. Camille began her journey as a team mom during their son’s early years in basketball and subsequently joined the coaching staff in the founding of Severn Elite, Inc., where she served as Treasurer.

Bernard C. “Jack” Young became the 51st Mayor of Baltimore City on Friday, May 2, 2019.
Mayor Young got his start in politics as a former special assistant to then-City Council President Mary Pat Clarke.
He served from 2010 to 2019 as the President of the Baltimore City Council, and for 14 years prior to that as a District Councilman.
Mayor Young has spent his time as a public servant aggressively representing the interests of the citizens of Baltimore. He made his mark in city government with a reputation for highly effective constituent services and for a dedication to youth, seniors, education, and public safety.

With great pride we present the recipient of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award and the National Volunteer of the Year Award for the Maryland District AAU, Ms. Terri Fulp!
The importance of volunteers cannot be overestimated. Whether the individual acts as a volunteer administrator of an event or contributes his or her time and resources in support of a larger task or tasks.
It is for this reason that the Volunteer of the Year Award was created to recognize those outstanding volunteers whose unselfish and dedicated service to their sport, the Maryland AAU District, and the overall organization of the AAU, has made a significant difference and impact.

Joe Cucchiaro has been an active member of the Maryland swimming community since 2007, when his six-year-old daughter started swimming competitively, to be joined the following year by Joe’s younger daughter. Their first team was the Taylor Village Tigerfish summer team, which is a member of the Central Maryland Swim League (CMSL) and is sanctioned by AAU.
Joe initially started volunteering with the Tigerfish to help set up for meets and work as a timer.
He soon decided that he wanted to become an official and has been officiating ever since, both for the summer league and for the various year-round club swimming teams his daughters eventually joined. Joe was invited to join the Tigerfish parent board in 2011, then he accepted the role of AAU representative on the CMSL board the following year, without fully understanding what the position would entail or even what AAU really was. Nonetheless, he enthusiastically tackled the role that would result in him becoming a valued member of the AAU community.
