Welcome "Choo" Smith!

BALTIMORE - The Maryland District AAU is excited and proud to welcome former Original Harlem Globetrotter, Charles "Choo" Smith to our Maryland District AAU family! Choo has accepted the new position of Education and Player Development Coordinator for our Boys Basketball Program!

"Choo brings a wealth of experience to our program, both on and off the court," says Ben DuBose, MD AAU Governor, "and without a doubt, he'll help raise our basketball organization to the next level!"

In addition to being a former member of the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters, Charles has played basketball in all fifty states and 26 countries, and he is recognized as one of the greatest dribblers in the world.

Choo is the founder of both Choo Smith Youth Empowerment, a non-profit organization that focuses on his "4L" philosophy, Love It, Learn It, Live It, Lead It, and Choo Smith Enterprise, a for-profit corporation.  He also created and oversees the Choo Smith Summer Basketball Camp, a platform for many initiatives under his Youth Empowerment organization.

Choo has been featured on local and national television networks, including Fox News, ABC, NBC and Cornerstone Television.

Lastly, Choo Smith was the Keynote Speaker at our 2013 Awards Banquet! He gave us quite a motivational and inspirational speech, sharing with us his incredible personal story of success, failure, persistence, hard work, the people and events that shaped his amazing life.
