Kent Island 12U Romps to AAU World Championship in Florida

The Kent Island Bucs 12U baseball team went undefeated 6-0 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., over the 2015 Labor Day weekend and won the inaugural AAU Baseball International World Championships.

In the semifinals, the Bucs were led by Carson Tucker's 3-run blast that helped lift them past Puerto Rico 4-1, and in the finals the Bucs had tremendous defense as they beat the Canes Baseball Academy (Miami, FL) 8-0 to claim the title.

“Kent Island Bucs Baseball has been a significant partner over the last 7 years helping build the Maryland AAU district’s baseball program,” Maryland AAU Baseball director John Pineau said. “And this is just a great job by these kids winning the world championship and evidence of how they worked really hard and how hard the AAU youth baseball community has worked.”

The tournament included teams from numerous states in the U.S. competing against teams from Puerto Rico, Jamaica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Mexico in the very first AAU Baseball International World Championship.

It was the State of Maryland’s second major AAU baseball championship in recent years, including the Maryland Baseball Academy 13U team that won the AAU National Championship in 2010. In addition, Maryland RBI advanced to the AAU Super Showcase/National Championship and underclassmen No. 5 final ranking in 2013.
